Nadejda Maslova Brings the USTA Super National Winter Championships title to Brooklyn, New York
January 8, 2019
Once again, Nadejda Maslova, a standout of MatchPoint NYC’s Junior Development Program, made the unthinkable happen. Maslova became a hometown heroine by winning the USTA Super National Winter Championships. The last time a Brooklyn player won USTA Super National Championship was 2013, when Danny Kerznerman, who also trained at MatchPoint NYC under the supervision of Nino Muhatasov, won the title. This was not an easy win. After a long road to the championship match, it took three sets for Maslova to defeated Leyden Games, a Blue Chip recruit, in the finals. A draw of the best 128 nationally ranked tennis players competed to be crowned champion.
Maslova joined MatchPoint NYC in 2013 at the age of 10 and has been training at the club ever since. Her team of coaches consists of Nino Muhatasov (Former coach of WTA and ATP players), Alona Sotnikova (Former WTA Tour player), Valery Kluchnikov (NASM and NFPT Certified Personal Trainer), Farrah Unger (ISSA Certified Personal Trainer) and Aleksandr Osipenko (Master of Sports of Russian Federation: 100 meters freestyle).
Maslova thrives under pressure. Her weekly schedule consists of different training sessions with Saturday and Sunday being her days off:
- Daily private practice with Nino Muhatasov and Alona Sotnikova 2 PM to 3:30 PM.
- Training in MatchPoint NYC’s Junior Development Program Monday through Thursday 7 PM to 9 PM.
- Four times a week fitness with Valery Kluchnikov, yoga with Farrah Unger and swimming with Aleksandr Osipenko once a week.
Despite her personal success and hard work, Maslova humbly continues to thank her team of coaches for her tremendous success.
“I learned to control the ball very well and my coaches are the reason why it happened,” she says of her preparation. “My coaches worked with me for hours and took time to explain the importance of consistency. I move better on the court, and I read my opponents game.”
“Nino helps me in absolutely everything,” states Maslova. “He’s one of my greatest motivations, and I don’t know where I would be without him. He works with me through thick and thin and I couldn’t be more thankful.”
According to Maslova, her trainer, Valery Kluchnikov (NASM and NFPT Certified Personal Trainer), played a vital role in preparation by working on her strength and speed which, she says, “I very much need for my game.” She’s also expressed gratitude to her yoga and swimming coaches who’ve helped her get in tune with her body.
“Matchpoint honestly feels like home to me,” she says. “The people there are like family, and I’m always welcome. It has everything that I need – great courts, amazing pool, and an unbelievable gym. I go to a lot of clubs for tournaments but nothing feels the same as MatchPoint NYC. It’s the best place for me.”
We are honored to call Nadejda Maslova one of our own, and we love that she’s found MatchPoint NYC an ideal place to hone her craft.
We are beyond excited to congratulate Maslova on her amazing win, and we wish her the best of luck in the future!
