Our brain may have said “no” but, the cravings were certainly shouting “Yes!Can cravings just stop? … Please? We’re trying to be healthy here!

Professor Andrade has the answer: Tetris. Play Tetris.

After testing 31 students for 7 days at the University of Plymouth, Professor Jackie Andrade concluded

Playing Tetris (for at least 3 minutes) decreased craving strength for drugs, food, and activities from 70% to 56%.

This is the first demonstration that cognitive interference can be used outside the lab to reduce cravings for substances and activities other than eating.”

Who would’ve thought Tetris could be so useful? Haha, Mom! You can’t object to my phone addiction! Oh wait… does it stop phone cravings too?[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”32px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row parallax=”none” parallax_image=”” row_type=”boxed” columns_type=”wtrMargin” columns_autohight=”wtrNoAutoHeightColumns” menu_above=”wtrNoAboveMenuRow” el_class=”” bg_type=”color” color_bg=”#ffffff” img=”” img_attr=”default” color_overlay_opt=”off” color_overlay=”rgba(31,206,109,0.60)” type_video=”local” mp4=”” ogg=”” webm=”” youtube_video=”” vimeo_video=”” sound_video=”off” control_video=”off” mobile_img_poster=”” animate=”none” delay=”0″][vc_column width=”1/2″ type_bg=”transparent” color_bg=”#ffffff” img_bg=”” img_attr=”default” corner=”wtrNoRoundedCornersColumn” el_class=”” animate=”none” delay=”0″][vc_column_text animate=”none” delay=”0″]There really is science behind it!

Professor Andrade explains: “We think the Tetris effect happens because craving involves imagining the experience of consuming a particular substance or indulging in a particular activity. Playing a visually interesting game like Tetris occupies the mental processes that support that imagery;

it is hard to imagine something vividly and play Tetris at the same time.”

So, next time you crave a cookie (and it’s not time for your weekly cheat meal) play 3 minutes of Tetris first. The cravings should have passed or decreased by then, giving you enough will power to defeat them. Always remember,

You are stronger than the craving!
